The Ontario home is a modern take on the traditional urban row-home built into a compact remnant plot where two older row homes converged. This plot was originally intended to be utilized as a community garden, but sat dormant for over a century, making it eligible to be reimagined. Working within the constraints of this 14-foot wide plot, Architect David Jamesan crafted a beautiful four-story home that maximizes sunlight and exterior greenery – two majorly common set backs of designing row-homes.
This home was constructed with two metal clad walls veiling the neighboring row homes and reflecting light onto the built-in vertical gardens. Outdoor space is maximized through two patios on either end of the home along with a rooftop deck overlooking Rock Creek Park and the National Zoo. Inside the home, the perforated steel staircase allows light to flow through the entirety of the home with ease.
