The Jigsaw Residence, a recycled single-story suburban house, is a puzzling work of art. This matrix-like home was designed to blur the lines between indoors and out with meshing ribbons of wall and glass surrounding an open-air courtyard carved from the home’s remains. Planes of stucco exterior walls seamlessly switch to plaster interior walls while passing through glass, providing the same effect on either side. Reflectivity also plays an important role in rendering these unclear boundaries between interior and exterior.
This contemporary-style home puts privacy as a priority without sacrificing the surrounding views and natural light. Clerestory windows were carefully placed to allow daylight to flood the rooms without giving bypassers a view inside the home. The Jigsaw Residence is designed to celebrate the outdoors within.
